Chicagoan Francesca Folinazzo (Frank) founded Roots Music Rambler as a music and travel blog in a pre-pandemic world. COVID killed events and travel plus her desire to play her banjo. Falls texted her in 2023 and said, 'Let's bring it back as a podcast!' He was raised on John Prine, babysat on Waylon Jennings and taught to drink and cuss the proper, mountain way. He hails from Pikeville, Ky., the birthplace of Dwight Yoakum, whose annual festival is Hillbilly Days.
A new episode of Roots Music Rambler comes your way Friday. Our guests this week are Joe and James from Jackson Pines, an up-and-coming folk-rock band from the Pine Barrens region of New Jersey. We got a master’s degree in the history of folk music there from these guys and had a great discussion about the genre, their music and more.
Also on the episode, Falls went full-on Ron White and told his own story of being “thrown from a bar in New York City.” Hear that in this segment, then listen to the full episode!
It drops Friday at rootsmusicrambler.com or wherever you get your podcasts. Be sure to subscribe today and don’t miss an episode.

It’s about time for a new episode of Roots Music Rambler. The next one drops Friday and Frank and Falls get a master’s degree in New Jersey folk music from Joe and James of Jackson Pines!
Plus, Falls goes off on grammar nazis in record collecting groups who wag their fingers at people for saying the word “vinyl” as a noun to describe records. (What do you think? Is “I love vinyls,” an acceptable phrase?)
