John Haywood is an old time banjo player, not a bluegrass banjo player. He explained his background, influences and the difference between the two on the latest episode of Roots Music Rambler. Old time mountain banjo is actually influenced by African styles as well as other minority influencers. John’s discovery of that music helped give him motivation and purpose growing up in a depressed area of the country.
